Mainframes which were as recently as 15 years ago labeled dinosaurs, are currently undergoing an incredible renaissance in a dramatically growing internet-computing market.

"The mainframes are dead, long live the mainframes."

As this quote states, mainframes are currently recapturing once believed lost grounds, especially in the internet-market, and are increasingly pushing back PCs and workstations in client/server architectures.

Meanwhile, the sheer number of worldwide existing and proposed mainframe-installations in e-commerce is exceeding all expectations.

This trend is predominantly based on features such as high reliability, security and enormous processing power.

This website presents the efforts of the Institute of Computer Science of Leipzig University in introducing interested students and recent graduates to fundamental knowledge of hard- and software-architecture of IBM z/Series-processors including state-of-the-art internet technologies.
